"Art + Politics = Power"

Adolph Hitler is perhaps the most well known political villain of the 20th century. Prior to his rise to power as Germany's most famous ruthless leader, however, Hitler was an artist. Few filmmakers have waded past the more obvious drama of World War II in order to plum the depths of this famous despots youth in the way that Menno Meyjes has with "Max."

This film attempts to piece together some of Hitler's life as a young artist and veteran living in Munich through the eyes of fellow art lover and veteran, Max Rothman.

Although Rothman's artist days are behind him due to a war injury that cost him an arm, he's parlayed his love of art and eye for talent into a lucrative art dealer position. Rothman sees in the young Hitler a passion and drive to create, and tries to help the spirited but frustrated youth.

The movie centers around the ebb and flow of Hitler's growing extremist ideals and Rothman's awakening disenfranchisement. Set against the backdrop of pre-holocaust Europe, the film is a layer cake of political and personal dramas.
