Watch Home Fires

The British TV show Home Fires involves the different lives of members involved in The Women's Institute. This show takes place in Great Paxford during World War Two. The Women's Institute becomes reorganized in order to make this type of committee more personal, and in a more carefree environment for the members. When the war appears close to Great Britain, The Women's Institute starts putting a stop on available fruit by producing jam. Once the war is officially announced in Great Britain, a debate starts as to which men will enlist to go off to war. Some men are too ill to enlist while others dismiss their duties.

The Women's Institute become more supportive of the war effort by using unused land for the production of food. When the war on Great Britain is definite, the Women's Institute make a decision to put a "community air raid shelter" into place for those left in the community, in order to stay safe if there is any type of attack. The Women's Institute members deal with normal family problems such as keeping their family together, keeping their farm land, and dealing with others that decide to leave the area.
